This is true for both the nomination process and the actual voting. Everyone (all Naras members) vote in the 5 major categories such as song of the year, new artist etc. but when it comes to specialty fields all members are allowed to vote in 10 additional fields - which can contain as little as one category ( Best Musical Show Album) or as many as 13 ( such as Jazz ). Quite often voters fill out their ballots and discover that they can vote in two more fields and so they randomly go through the extensive listing and vote - not because they care, nor because they have a knowledge of that category but simply because they can. So what happens? They vote for something they've heard of rather than something they haven't heard of - hence you get a Broadway field this year with all revivals. Not because these were the best but because they've heard of them. At the same time if there is a rock oriented "show" album in the category the chances are pretty good that it will win. The exlcusion of Next to Normal is rather sad, but it wasn't shocking. The inclusion of that vile Ain't Misbehav'n recording is the shocker.Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11177432692806101132noreply@blogger.com
