Mr. Broadway May 2018: Wesley Taylor and Isaac Powell

May is Celebrate Broadway Couples Month here! We already honored a pair of ladies of the stage, but today, we honor a real-life couple - one a former Mr. Broadway (September 2010) and the other, a brand new Broadway Baby.  I'm talking, of course, about SpongeBob's Wesley Taylor and Once On This Island's Isaac Powell.  (Readers, you asked for "beefcake" and now you've got it!)  These guys are as cute as they are talented, and make one heck of a couple.  Fortunately for us, they post a ton of pictures along with lots of pictures of their work.  Congratulations!  You two are Mr. Broadway May 2018!

Ms. Broadway May 2018: Caissie Levy and Patti Murin

This May will be a little different: we'll be celebrating a pair of women and a pair of men for the month. We are thrilled to celebrate a duo bringing fire (and a lot of ice) to Broadway in Disney's Frozen. Both are previous honorees (Ms. December 2011 and Ms. May 2012), so it's safe to say we are BIG fans.  And how awesome is it that their careers have continued to thrive? Can you imagine where they'll be in another 6 or 7 years? Exciting!

“It’s all about harnessing that power and taking those things we don’t love about ourselves and trying to see the positive side of it,” Caissie Levy

“It’s about women being supportive of each other,” Murin said.
“Simply put: Together we are stronger.”

The Friday 5: 5 Breakout Male Musical Performances from 2017-2018

THE FRIDAY 5: JEFF'S FAVORITE 2017 - 2018

BREAKOUT MALE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES

5. GREY HENSON
Damian Hubbard - Mean Girls

I've been looking forward to Mean Girls for some time, and the reviews for this guy make me even more excited to see the show.  And now he's a Tony nominee! Congrats to him (and the show).  See you on Sunday!

4. Isaac Powell
Daniel - Once on This Island

I loved Once On This Island, and I really loved this guy's magnetic and heartfelt performance as Daniel.  Easy to see why Ti Moune fell for him.  He oozes charisma and charm.  And what voice... and spectacular Broadway debut!

3. ARI'EL STACHEL
Haled - The Band's Visit

He's got the sexiest pick up line Broadway's heard in years.  Charm, sex appeal and a smooth voice - what a great Broadway debut, too. Looks like I'm not the only one who feels like he's going places. Now he's a Tony nominee!

2. JOSHUA HENRY
Billy Bigelow - Carousel

I've never seen this guy give a bad performance, and his turn in Carousel is EPIC. The seething anger, the passionate ferocity, and one AMAZING "Soliloquy" make this one of the best performances of the season.  Will a Tony finally be his?

1. ETHAN SLATER
SpongeBob - SpongeBob SquarePants

How can you not appreciate a young actor who has been with a project from start to finish, which also happens to be his Broadway debut? I've yet to see this performance, but I hope to - it's been the talk of the town since the show opened.

Broadway Pulse: Best Ensemble in a Musical

The results from last week:
FAVORITE CURRENT LONG-RUNNING BROADWAY SHOW:
1. Come From Away (59.09%)
2. Wicked (36.36%)
3. Waitress (4.55%)

Today's the day! The 2017-2018 Tony Awards nominations are out, and it's time to react - cheer and grumble, start making guesses about the winners, and start thinking about the 2018-2019 season!

Recently, Actors' Equity Association began petitioning for a new Tony Award that recognizes the artistry, talent and contribution of the Ensemble and the Chorus.  According to Equity, an ensemble is defined as "entire company of a musical or play, including principal, featured, chorus, and swing roles."

Today's Broadway Pulse Poll asks YOU to play Tony Nominating Committee, and select up to 4 ensembles (by definition) of this season's musicals. After the poll closed, the top 4 nominees (5 if the votes dictate, just like the real Tonys!) will be announced, and we'll vote for a final winner!

YOU CAN PICK UP TO FOUR  NOMINEES. YOU MUST CLICK THE "VOTE" BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM FOR THE VOTE TO COUNT!
