Welcome to Broadway! New Faces of the 2013 - 2014 Season (Quarter 3)

All season I've been celebrating all the talented, hard-working folks that are making their Broadway debuts! During the first quarter (HERE) there were at least 59 debuts, and during the second quarter (HERE) there were at least 91 debuts! This quarter (November 25 - February 23) didn't include as many new shows opening, but there were still 45 debutantes. And among them were several high profile cast replacements including Fran Drescher and Carly Rae Jepsen in Cinderella, and After Midnight's special guest star, k.d. lang, plus my favorite gal in the new play Outside Mullingar , Debra Messing. With so many shows opening in this last quarter of the season, there are bound to be a ton of Broadway debuts!

Face of the Future: Cinderella's Joe Carroll

When you Google the name Joe Carroll, up pops up a slew of articles and some very disturbing images of a character in the show The Following. I don't watch the show, but he must be something. But I have a feeling that pretty soon, we'll be seeing a lot of articles and many more images when we Google the guy I'm thinking of. He started out on Broadway as an understudy in Once. Then he moved up to the role of Balthazar in the recent revival of Romeo and Juliet. Along the way to his current gig, he's played concerts at Joe's Pub and other venues in NYC. Now, he's starring (soon with Carly Rae Jepsen) as Topher in Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. That's all I need to know that the future is here for this "face."

FACE of the FUTURE: Cinderella's Callan Bergmann

I've actually had my eye on this talented cutie since he was part of the totally hot quartet of backup cowboys in the off-Broadway musical Lucky Guy. I next noticed him in his funny and beautifully danced ballet dream sequence in Silence! (He also represented that show in last year's Broadway Beauty Pageant competition!) Most recently, he's been in Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and in the National Tour of Disney's Mary Poppins. Oh! And he was a featured dancer on TV's Smash.

He's not just another pretty face. He's an amazing dancer. He also shares his talents as a teacher with Broadway Connection. And now, Callan Bergmann is making his Broadway debut as a swing in Cinderella. I am CERTAIN that his is a face we will see a lot of in the future.

Broadway Ladies: Ms. Broadway June 2013: Ann Harada

ANN HARADA

WHY SHE'S MS. BROADWAY: File this one under "it took far too long." For more than a decade, she's been a real Broadway "scene stealer," winning the hearts of thousands of theater fans. She's the kind of actress that people always say has "it." No matter if she's in the ensemble (Seussical, 9 to 5) or in a featured role (Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables), you can't help but notice her charisma, superb sense of timing, and sincere warmth. Of course, she'll probably always be most remembered for creating the role of Christmas Eve in Avenue Q, but these days, she's causing quite a scene (and singing the showstopper "Step-Sister's Lament") in Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. Everybody loves a good "bad girl," so why shouldn't Ann Harada (finally) be Ms. Broadway!?

FUN FACTS:

Ann was born on February 3rd in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She went to Brown University.
Ann has a son named Elvis!
Ms. Harada was in every version - from first reading through original Broadway cast of Seussical.
She's the only Avenue Q cast member to originate her role on both Broadway and the West End.
She played the stage manamger of Bombshell in both seasons of TV's SMASH.
She and her AQ co-star, John Tartaglia, appered on the Disney Channel in his original series, Johnny and the Sprites.
Ann got rave reviews for her performances as Miss Darbus in a regional production of Disney's High School Musical, and as Trina in an all-Asian production of Falsettoland.
She made her Broadway debut as a production assistant for the short-lived play, Sleight of Hand, and made her Broadway acting debut in the play M. Butterfly.
