The Abs that started it all...
Sex sells.  That is hardly news, especially on Broadway.  For decades, the Great White Way has traded on sexy, scantily clad chorus girls, titillating innuendo, and occasional bouts with headline-making nudity.  From The Ziegfeld Follies to Oh! Calcutta! and Hair to The Full Monty and Naked Boys Singing, the New York theater scene has had its share of skin on display.

But I can't remember a professional review, including those about some of the aforementioned shows, that was so down right smutty and objectifying as the one published in The New York Times for the current revival of Picnic (HERE).  As you probably know, the chief theatre critic spends more than half the review describing the torso of one actor (plus a side trip into his exposed nipple) and the legs of another.  No names.  Just a skeezy, leering description.  He eventually gets to a couple of sentences about their acting.  Why not waste what little space he's apparently given with an actual review?  I guess verbal masturbation sells papers.  I miss the days where his smug tone was actually discrete AND about the show.

Of course, I make no qualms about celebrating the bodies beautiful of Broadway.  And apparently most of you don't mind, either.  Most of my most viewed blogs are more sexy ones - you wouldn't believe the numbers I get for Broadway Bares.  So, here's one for you guys!  (And thank you to "The Grey Lady' for "legitimizing" it...)

Broadway Ladies: Ms. January 2013: Maggie Grace

IT'S BACK!  BE SURE TO VOTE IN THIS WEEK'S "HOT OR NOT"!
IT'S THE FIRST ROUND OF VOTING FOR
RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA!

MS. BROADWAY JANUARY 2013
aka MS. "LEGS"
MAGGIE GRACE

WHY SHE'S MS. BROADWAY:  She became the talk of the Twitterverse thanks to a creepy, sexual harassment-filled Ben Brantley review (including several mentions of  her "exquisitely shaped pair of legs") of her Broadway debut.  It could be the steamy chemistry between her and her co-star, aka "torso/nipple" guy nightly at the American Airlines Theatre in the Roundabout revival of Picnic.  No matter what it is, welcome to Broadway, Ms. January, Maggie Grace.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Birthday: September 21
Where you might have seen her: Broadway: Picnic (debut); Television: Cold Case, Law and Order: SVU. CSI: Miami, Murder in Greenwich, Film: Taken, Taken 2, Knight and Day, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Parts 1 and 2.
