One That Got Away: The History Boys

The good news is that the entire original cast of The History Boys was in the wonderful film version of this Olivier and Tony Award-winning play by Alan Bennett. The bad news is that I missed it on Broadway - damn you, limited-run British imports! I can take some consolation in the fact that in subsequent years, I have gotten to see several of these cast members perform live, including Samuel Barnett (in Twelfth Night), Jamie Parker (in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Tony-winner James Corden (in One Man, Two Guvnors). And I'm super stoked to finally see Russell Tovey in the upcoming Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

But still, I love the story of The History Boys so much, I can only imagine who amazing it was to watch it play out in front of me. And what a privilege it would have been to see the late Richard Griffiths. An amazing talent. The whole company is amazing. That's why this is definitely one that got away.
