Ms. Broadway December 2020: Hadestown's Eva Noblezada

It seems only fitting that we end 2020 by honoring the living history of Broadway with our Mr. Broadway December 2020, Andre De Shields, and also honoring the living future of American theater with our Ms. Broadway December 2020, his Hadestown co-star, Eva Noblezada. In a very short time, she's established herself as leading musical actress on both sides of the Atlantic. Of course, she first came into the spotlight as a 2013 Jimmy Awards finalist, where she was "discovered." From there, it was London and the 25th Anniversary production of Miss Saigon, followed by a stint as Eponine in the London revival of Les Miserables. Then came her Broadway debut as Kim in the revival of Miss Saigon, which earned her a 2017 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Soon, it was back to London and the National Theatre production of Hadestown. She was again nominated for a Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her role as Eurydice in the Broadway transfer of the same. We are sre that she is just getting started!

Standing @ Zero: Come From Away's John Jellison

Our final Standing @ Zero honoree is what we consider to be the quintessential ensemblist: a career chorus boy/understudy/stand by with over 40 years of Broadway credits. John Jellison has done and seen it all, from fast flops to long running hits. Dance roles, character bits, and on occasion, taking over a lead role. He is so well-known that the Lights of Broadway cards gave him his own rare "Ensemblist" card!

Jellison's career has taken him all over the country, in such regional productions as Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma!, The Last Ship and a national tour of A Christmas Carol.  He is currently a part of the Come From Away company, and has appeared in some 18 Broadway shows including The Phantom of the Opera, Me and My Girl, Baby, the original cast of Sunday in the Park with George, Titanic, All Shook Up, Memphis, Caroline, or Change, Crazy For You and Motown.

Mr. Broadway December 2020: Hadestown's Andre De Shields

After the year we've had, what better way to celebrate its end than to honor a true Broadway legend as Mr. Broadway for December 2020? Of course, most Broadway fans know of his bigger accomplishments like being the original Wiz in The Wiz, being in the original cast of Ain't Misbehavin', his hilarious turn as "Horse" in The Full Monty, and, of course, his Tony-winning role in Hadestown. But like most performers, André De Shields, has had his share of less-than-successful credits on his resumé. His Broadway career got off to a rocky start with his debut in the short-lived Warp (he played Desi Arnez!), followed by the infamous Rachel Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It, which never opened. He also choreographed both of Bette Midler's solo shows, and did just about everything for his own solo show, André De Shields' Haarlem Nocturne. (He starred, conceived, directed, wrote book, music and lyrics, and choreographed!) He's done it all, and we are all the better for it.
