Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway
as Squigs sees it

• Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway opened on November 10 at the Broadhurst Theatre. 

BEST BROADWAY NEWS OF THE WEEK:

• Chinglish, now on Broadway, won the Jeff Equity Award for Best New Play - David Henry Hwang, and Best Scenic Design of a Play - David Korins.  The Jeff Equity Awards celebrate the best in Chicago theatre.

WORST BROADWAY NEWS OF THE WEEK:

Matthew James Thomas

• Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark can't catch a break!  This week, both a major investor and Tony-eligible director Julie Taymor have filed suit against producers of the show for non-payment of funds loaned and royalties due, respectively.  Then, to top it all off, alternate Spider-Man Matthew James Thomas was injured during Wednesday's matinee and was taken to the hospital to get stitches.  Luckily, Reeve Carney was in the house, donned the costume and finished the show!  THAT I would have loved to have seen.

BROADWAY WELCOME:

• Speaking of Spider-Man, the show welcomed its new Mary Jane Watson, Rebecca Faulkenberry (Rock of Ages) to the cast on November 10.

• Anything Goes welcomed Stephanie J. Block in the role of Reno Sweeney, taking over for Sutton Foster through November 22, while Foster shoots a TV pilot.

BROADWAY WELCOME BACK:

• Speaking of Anything Goes, Joel Grey returned to the show this week, now healed from an ankle injury.

• Speaking of ankle injuries, Godspell's Morgan James returned to that show this week.  She missed all of the previews and opening night, but at least she's healed!  Julia Mattison did an amazing job as her understudy in her stead.
