Ms. August 2013
Condola Rashad

WHY SHE'S MS. BROADWAY: Perhaps the better question should be: will she go three for three this season?  Condola Rashad has appeared on Broadway twice and was Tony-nominated each time.  The first was for her role in Stick Fly, the second for last season's The Trip to Bountiful.  Now, she's getting ready to take on one of the most iconic roles in Western drama, Miss Capulet.  Yes, she's playing Juliet in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, opposite first-timer, movie star Orlando Bloom.  Daughter of Tony-winner Phylicia Rashad, she also co-starred with her mother (and a host of A-list stars) in the Lifetime television film version of Steel Magnolias.  Her other TV work includes Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Smash; her films include Sex and the City 2 and 30 Beats.  But later this month, theatre fans will be able to marvel at her stage skills, and it'll be easy to see why she's Ms. Broadway August 2013.

FUN FACTS:

  • Her father is sportscaster and former pro football player, Ahmad Rashad, and she has 7 siblings.
  • Her name, Condola, is from her grandmother.
  • Her aunt is Debbie Allen.
  • She won a Theatre World Award for her performance in off-Broadway's Ruined.
  • She is a 2008 graduate of the California Institute of the Arts.
  • She plays Eva Halden in the web series Submissions Only
