Broadway Box Office
Week 36

The winter freeze continues, with most shows maintaining (small rises and falls at the box office).  The big droppers this week were Annie and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  Big improvements came for two old favorites, The Phantom of the Opera and the soon-to-close Mary Poppins, and biggest of all, The Heiress.  Even more good news for this starry revival - it will close at a profit.  The nicest news is that the first big musical of the second part of the season, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, is starting off like gangbusters, moving up to #8 in its first full week of previews.  And he's back! Manilow on Broadway  finally opened, an ailing Barry Manilow crooning his way through 5 performances at the St. James Theatre.
