The 2013 - 2014 Season: Jeff and Mike's Tony Awards Nominations Predictions

Well, the 2013 - 2014 Broadway season is in the history books.   My theatre-going buddy, Mike, and I were fortunate enough to see every new musical and musical revival.  As is tradition for this blog, we will be making our Tony nominations predictions in all of the musical categories.  Below, you'll see our choices for what we feel SHOULD be nominated and what WILL be nominated.  While very few shows stuck out as really exceptional, we both agree that many shows have really exceptional elements.  It was very hard to narrow down our choices in many categories, which sure was better than trying to stretch limited choices just to fill out a category.  We shall see how we compare to the actual Tony nominations tomorrow!

Let us know what you think SHOULD be nominated, and/or guess what will be nominated by writing in via email (jkstheatrescene@yahoo.com), Twitter (@jkstheatrescene), or by leaving a comment at the bottom of this blog entry!

Jeff: The shows marked by an * represent what we feel will be the 5th nominee if there is one.
Mike:  The star indicates a possible fifth slot. I have many doubts about the "will" list, with only Gentleman's Guide as a near-lock and the possibility of Bullets, If/Then, and Rocky bumping other choices.

Jeff: It wouldn’t surprise me if the Tony nominators give Susan Stroman a nod in this category for Bullets Over Broadway.
Mike:  Violet just misses the cut for me, and is a potential spoiler in the "will" category.

Jeff: I’ll be honest here.  I don’t know enough about orchestrations to make an educated guess.  I picked my “shoulds” based on what pleased my ear the most.  And my “wills” are purely based mostly on names that have been previous winners or frequent nominees in previous seasons.
Mike: I think the committee mainly picks names they know here. This might be a good category to award Stephen Trask for Hedwig by proxy, at least for a nomination.
