Ms. April
LaChanze
WHY SHE'S MS. BROADWAY: I've been a fan of hers since I first heard the cast recording of
Once on This Island, and I finally got to see her in the 1995 revival of
Company, where she sang a killer "Another Hundred People." She also has had a few nice roles on TV and the movies, including
One Life to Live, Disney's
Hercules, and
The Help. But she's a real stage kinda gal both on and off Broadway. She made her debut in
Uptown...It's Hot!, followed by a revival of
Dreamgirls, and took on roles in such shows as
Dessa Rose, Ragtime, and of course, her Tony-winning turn in
The Color Purple. So, why now? Why
Ms. April? Well, she's making quite an impression in
If/Then! Welcome back,
LaChanze!
